Gary's Story

Gary Walker survived a car crash where he suffered burns to his entire body and lost his right leg below the knee

At 16 years old, my appearance changed forever.

My friend, the driver, sadly lost his life after losing control of the car when we were traveling in on a bend. Causing the car to flip on impact with curb and into the front garden of a house and catching fire. We were trapped inside the burning car.

I honestly believe it is a miracle I survived and can still tell my story and hopefully stop anyone else from making the same mistakes as I did.

I now live with a constant reminder of that evening. I lost my index finger on left hand, part of my right ear and my right bum cheek, 75% full thickness burns to my face and scalp and a closed head injury.

When I woke from my coma I didn’t want to be here anymore. I was in hospital for almost a year and my rehabilitation was slow and painful.

I know that we can’t stop bad, traumatic events happening. I just don’t want anyone to go through what I’ve been through and my regrets. That’s why I am happy to be a youth justice facilitator in trying to facilitate the young people through their orders in the most rewarding as well as beneficial to their futures as possible.

To be an Ambassador for The Scar Free Foundation is literally a wish made that has come true, their mission is to create a world without scarring. A world where you don’t have the errors or the accidents of your past mapped out on your skin for all to see. I understand the science is there and I know that it would be a life line for so many people.

I really feel i have a purpose in life now I'm in a much happier place, looking forward to what life has in store for me.

A quote that I want to share:

To be empowered, to be free, to be unlimited, to be creative, to be genius, to be divine—that is who you are…. Once you feel this way, memorize this feeling; remember this feeling. This is who you really are…. ~ Dr Joe Dispenza
