Research Council Chairman - Professor Peter Weissberg

Professor Peter Weissberg is a member of our Board of Trustees and Chairman of our Research Council. Professor Weissberg is a cardiovascular physician and the former Medical Director of the British Heart Foundation.

As Research Council Chairman, Peter oversees our research strategy and the development and roll-out of research funding calls. In addition, Peter directs the activities of our Research Council including the appointment of Research Council members and tasks Sub Committees of the Research Council, as necessary, to implement the Research Strategy and Management Plan (Research) Objectives of the Foundation.

Professor Paul Stewart is Professor of Medicine & Health Policy Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor at the University of Leeds and an Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

As Chief Scientific Adviser, Paul works closely with the Research Council Chairman, Chief Executive and Head of Research Funds in support of the charity’s commitment to supporting high-quality research in areas most relevant to its research strategy. This includes reviewing independent reviews (expert, patient and public) of Scar Free Foundation award submissions, making funding recommendations, and overseeing the progress of The Scar Free Foundation Programme of Wound Healing Research at the University of Bristol and The Scar Free Foundation/ Health and Care Research Wales Programme of Regenerative Medicine.
