Meet Our Ambassadors

Simon’s Story

Simon Weston CBE survived severe burns to his face and body after his ship, the RFA Sir Galahad, was attacked during the Falklands War. Simon Weston has been The Scar Free Foundation’s Lead Ambassador since 1999.

Lottie Pollak has scarring from gunshot wounds to the face and from the removal of a tumour on her neck.

Karl Hinett, a solider in the Iraq War, survived 37% burns to his body whilst supporting an operation in Basra in 2005.

Raiché Mederick survived 70% burns caused by a house fire when she was just 18 months old.

Susan Greenwood is a survivor of the 7/7 London Terrorist Attacks. She lost her leg in the bombing, and now lives with scars and advocates for our research into scar free healing.

Jaco’s Story

Dr Jaco Nel was hospitalised with sepsis in 2016 after a cut got infected. He now lives with scarring on his face and hands, and is a double amputee.

Leonora Ogerio survived the Manchester Arena Bombing in May 2017. She has scarring on her legs and spent five months recovering in hospital.

Dr Hemani Modasia-Shah is a doctor, a mother, a Trustee of The Scar Free Foundation, and a survivor. She survived burns on 30% of her body when she was just 18 months old.

Elizabeth Soffe survived severe burns across her whole body when she was six months old. She was awarded Child of Courage by the Pride of Britain Awards in 2022 after raising over £200,000 for the hospital that saved her life.

Hilary Dodson was born with a congenital haemangoima, undergoing major surgery at a young age that resulted in significant scarring.

Dan Jackson was diagnosed with a rare form of sinus cancer in 2012. As part of his treatment, he had to lose his right eye. He now lives with scarring on his face and inside his sinuses.
