On Saturday 30 August Lucy Wilson, scald survivor and Scar Free Ambassador of a decade, will take to the skies for Scar Free research. Head to Lucy’s JustGiving page today and show your support for our first-ever skydiver!

Ahead of taking the leap, we spoke to Lucy about her scar story, her motivation, and how she’s feeling about the big jump 🛩️

“On the 30th of August, I’ll be taking on one of the biggest challenges of my life – jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet.

Yes, I’m doing a skydive. And no, it’s definitely not something I ever imagined myself doing.

This year has been full of challenges, and it feels like the right time to take another leap (literally) for a cause that means a lot to me: The Scar Free Foundation, a charity who I’ve been proud to serve as an Ambassador for nearly a decade.

I became involved because I’m a burns survivor, someone who lives every single day with the physical and emotional impact of scarring.

Over the years, I’ve had countless surgeries to help improve the mobility and function of my scars, each one a step forward but never without its difficulties.

Most recently, in March this year, I underwent a major operation in which four of my toes were amputated – despite my scald incident happening 30 years ago.

It’s a reminder that the effects of scarring are lifelong. They don’t end when the wounds heal. They shape your movement, your self-image, and your mental wellbeing.

That’s why the work of The Scar Free Foundation is so important. A future without scars would mean no one would have to endure what I’ve been through – physically or psychologically.

This skydive is completely out of my comfort zone. It’s not something that comes naturally to me – I don’t even like heights – and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous.

But I’m doing this to push myself, to honour the resilience of burn survivors, and to raise awareness for a future where no one has to live with life-altering scarring.

I want to show what people with visible differences are capable of. That we are strong. That we are determined. And that we are more than our scars.

Please support my skydive if you can: whether by donating, sharing, or simply cheering me on. Every little helps in moving closer to a Scar Free future.

Let’s make history – one jump at a time”.

Please join us in saying the biggest Scar Free thank you to Lucy, our remarkable Ambassador and debut skydiver!
