The Scar Free Foundation Elective Awards are now open for applications! For your chance to undertake one of four electives worth up to £1,200, head to our Elective Awards 2025 page to read more. 

The four 4-8 week electives will cover research into areas of scarring, wound healing and visible difference-causing conditions, and are held in conjunction with four of our Partner Member Organisations

BAPRAS: British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons

BSSH: The British Society for Surgery of the Hand

BBA: British Burn Association

CFSGB&I: The Craniofacial Society of Great Britain and Ireland

The Scar Free Foundation logo with partner organization logos: British Burn Association, Craniofacial Society, BSSH, and BAPRAS.

Students from the following disciplines are encouraged to apply:

  • Dental
  • Dietetics
  • Medical
  • Nursing
  • Paramedic
  • Pharmacy
  • Psychology
  • Speech and language therapy
  • Therapy

The four Electives are competitive and externally assessed for rigour in research, quality supervision, and the potential impact on the student’s future career.

Applications now open for the 2026 Amber Young Burns Research Fellowship

Made possible through Professor Amber Young’s legacy, this £20,000 Fellowship supports the next generation of burns researchers to improve care for children and young people affected by burns.
